Domain Names

A domain name is an address on the internet.

A 'virtual domain' is any name that you care to choose that is available, or that you can possibly buy from someone else who has already registered that name.

The main public domains are .com   .net   and  .org
Then there are the country specific codes like.cy for Cyprus or .to for Tonga  or .co.uk for England.

A .com, net or org address will normally cost you $70 for the first 2 years
and then $35 per year thereafter for as long as you wish to keep paying.**

Each country specific name has a different charge....

i.e. A Cyprus address will cost C£25 per year, whereas an Armenian extension will cost $300 and then just a fee when you modify any information.

The most valuable addresses are the .com .net and .org except in cases like go.to  or radio.fm  etc

They can command a higher re-sale price, and they also seem to do better in the main search engines maybe because those are mostly American.

There are no limits to the number of domain names you can buy, and it is often a good strategy to have more than one pointing to the same site.
